Vinos de la Tierra is the traditional designation in Spain that identifies wines originating from a specific area. In 2009, a significant change occurred in European legislation regarding geographical indications, and under the new protection regime, Vinos de la Tierra were registered as Protected Geographical Indications (PGI).
