The IGP Bajo Aragón is located in an area of Mediterranean continentalized climate, with very hot summers and cold winters, and a marked thermal amplitude between day and night. Precipitation is scarce, concentrated mainly in spring and autumn. These conditions favor a slow and balanced ripening of the grapes, allowing the development of good aromatic and sugar concentration. As a result, the wines of Bajo Aragón stand out for their fruity character, good structure and balance on the palate, maintaining adequate acidity that provides freshness and typicality.
The IGP Bajo Aragón has its origin in the late 1990s, when wineries and vine growers of the area promoted the recognition of their wines linked to the territory. It was officially recognized in 1999 as “Vino de la Tierra” and later adapted to European regulations as a Protected Geographical Indication, becoming fully consolidated in the 2000s. It was born with the objective of protecting and giving visibility to a viticulture deeply rooted in Bajo Aragón. This IGP reinforces the projection and recognition of the wines from this area within the whole of Aragonese wine.
