Valle del Cinca

The IGP Valle del Cinca protects the wines produced in the middle valley of the Cinca River, in Huesca, covering vineyards located between 250 and 600 meters of altitude above sea level. The designation recognizes wines that reflect the identity of the territory, produced from authorized varieties such as Garnacha, Tempranillo, Macabeo, Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, among others.

Geographic area

The geographical area of the IGP Valle del Cinca comprises the middle valley of the Cinca River and its surroundings, in the western part of the province of Huesca. It is a territory that encompasses both low areas of the valley and surrounding slopes and plateaus, historically dedicated to vine cultivation and with a strong winemaking tradition linked to the Cinca comarca.

The characteristics of the soils of the geographical area (soils with pH between 7.5 and 8.5 and with a low presence of organic matter), as well as its climatic conditions, form a selective ecosystem that has maintained the recognized grape varieties through natural selection, giving rise to a specific and singular final product.

The winemaking comarca of Valle del Cinca is located in the Somontano, halfway between the Aragonese Pyrenees in its easternmost part and the Ebro depression. Numerous facts in this territory demonstrate the winemaking tradition and history of the area with the deep root of vine cultivation and wine production since the Middle Ages very much linked to the passage of the Order of the Templars.
