Ribera del Gállego

The IGP Ribera del Gállego – Cinco Villas is a recognized quality designation that identifies and protects the wines produced in the valley of the Gállego River and the comarca of Cinco Villas, in the northwest of Aragon. It covers wines that reflect the identity of a territory with a long winemaking tradition in Aragon.

Geographic area

This designation regulates aspects such as the authorized varieties, the maximum yields per hectare and the analytical parameters that the wines must meet to guarantee their quality and typicality. It covers still wines made in the area, offering wineries a flexible framework that allows for diversity of styles without losing reference to the territory and ensuring the consumer a product with a recognized and traceable identity.

In this wine IGP it is worth highlighting the abundance of gravelly land, understood as a terrain with a predominance of stones and very good drainage to which vine cultivation adapts perfectly, or the presence of the characteristic alaniés wind of this area. These factors add to the other characteristics of the geographical area that favor the obtaining of a specific final product with diverse nuances in the different types of wines that are produced in each of the localities belonging to this Indication.

The IGP Ribera del Gállego – Cinco Villas was officially recognized in 2003 as “Vino de la Tierra” and later adapted to European regulations as a Protected Geographical Indication. Its creation allowed for visibility and protection of the traditional viticulture historically developed in the valley of the Gállego River and the comarca of Cinco Villas.
