The IGP Ribera del Jiloca is characterized by an extreme continental climate, with very cold winters, hot summers and a marked daily thermal amplitude, especially during the grape ripening period. These conditions, combined with the high altitude of the vineyards and soils that are mainly calcareous and poor in organic matter, favor balanced vine growth and moderate yields.
The IGP Vino de la Tierra Ribera del Jiloca was officially regulated in 2005, becoming part of the European Protected Geographical Indications regulations after years of traditional production in the Jiloca River valley. The presence of vines and wine production in this area is documented at least since the 16th century, with historical references in municipal archives such as those of Daroca dating from 1581, and ethnographic evidence of cultivation and vinification even earlier than the medieval period.
