Sierra del Moncayo Oil

Sierra del Moncayo Oil is an extra virgin olive oil with Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), yellow to pale green in colour and multi-varietal in character, which comes from the north-western part of the province of Zaragoza, in Aragon. Made mainly from the Empeltre variety, together with Arbequina and other minor varieties, each batch undergoes strict quality and traceability controls from harvesting to bottling. This oil reflects traditional know-how and guarantees consumers an authentic product with fruity aromas, hints of almond and a slight spicy and bitter touch that give it complexity and unique character.

Geographic area

It covers the regions of Tarazona y el Moncayo and Campo de Borja, including 34 municipalities and more than 2,500 hectares of olive groves, forming a homogeneous morphological, geographical and historical unit.

Season

Olive harvesting begins between late October and early November in order to obtain the greatest possible intensity of fruitiness and avoid damage from the weather.

  • Oils with the Sierra de Moncayo Protected Designation of Origin have a minimum oleic acid content of over 70%.
  • Low linoleic acid content (maximum 11%).
  • K270 values (oxidation indicator) below 0.12, reflecting good oil preservation.
  • All of this results in an oil whose hallmark is its harmony.

  • Empeltre: minimum percentage of 70%
  • Arbequina: maximum percentage of 25%
  • Negral, Verdial or Royal: presence of at least one of these varieties, without the total exceeding 5%
