In the Calatayud PDO, viticulture is carried out in an “extreme vineyard” environment, at altitudes ranging from 550 to 1,040 meters above sea level, where natural conditions are demanding: hot summers, cold winters, and wide temperature variations. Limestone soils and low yields per hectare concentrate the components of the grape and enhance its character. As a result, Calatayud wines show high concentration, firm structure, and pronounced tannins, as well as strong aromatic intensity, reflecting the terroir and the vine’s adaptation to these particular conditions.
